You will find your country there (and others) and stories about journalists and journalism in that country.  Read two or three stories to learn about the issues of freedom of speech and the press.

On page 230 he crowns his wife.  He later takes the crown from the pope and crowns himself!  How is this a contradiction with the Napoleonic Code?

Due THurs: p. 222----Due Friday: Revolutionary Newsletter

DUE THURS.  HW:  p. 222  Describe the REPUBLIC OF VIRTUE.
Define virtue:
What 8 changes were made to create a new society of virtue?
Which 2 do you think were unnecessary?  Which 3 changes do you agree with?
Which one was the most important?  Why?


All Debate Club members must contribute an ORIGINAL article, except
for the editor.  Articles must have a headline, an argument, evidence (3) to
support your claim in your article.  Please create articles that are unique.  Not just about the beheading of the King and Queen!!
Editor should download a newspaper template from the internet.

Include: (use your notes; text; internet for stories)
  1. Name of your Newsletter:  it should reflect the times; revolutionary zeal
  2. Name of the Debate Club that publishes the newsletter; your club name should reflect the times
  3. Headlines:  this should reflect the most important issue of the day
  4. Subheading for 4 articles with byline for the author, that reflect other concerns from your reading (secret letters, charges against the king, what should be done in Paris to continue the revolution, opinions and quotes from different leaders of different "factions" of the revolution.
  5. 2-3  small pictures in the whole news letter  2x2 in. max.
  6. EXAMPLES OF POSSIBLE STORIES:  executions, murder of Marat, execution of Olympie de Gouges; September Massacre;  bloodbath in Lyon; plans for a Republic of Virtue, etc.

Write a one-two minute speech (half to 1 full page)for your debate society about the news you have read.  “Dear Citizens…or Dear Patriots”  .."Dear Comrades".
 
Summarize and give evidence for your point of view:  How did reading this influence you as a member of the 3rd Estate?   Is this reason to continue the Revolution or
This is a reason not to continue.  

Include what these news events mean for you and the Revolution.
